Curriculum and Year Groups

Children Learn Best When They Are Having Fun! Here at JAVN, we pride ourselves on children being able to learn in a fun and stimulating environment to bring out the best in each and every child.

We follow the British Curriculum – Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

The EYFS supports seven areas of learning; these areas of learning and development are balanced, interconnecting providing equal opportunities for your child to flourish. The Areas of development are divided into two focus groups, Prime Areas and Specific Areas.

PRIME AREAS

The three Prime Areas are dedicated to igniting children’s imagination and curiosity to learn, form relationships and thrive.

Prime Areas:

  • Communication & Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social & Emotional Development

These prime areas are essential for children’s healthy development and future learning, allowing them to develop skills for the further four specific areas.

SPECIFIC AREAS

Specific Areas:

  • Literacy
  • Understanding the World
  • Mathematics
  • Expressive Arts and Design.

Within these areas of development your child will be introduced to a range of age and stage appropriate activities within the nursery environment. As your child grows, their learning areas will become more complex to enhance their knowledge and development. They will be given opportunity to learn and participate in story time, songs and rhymes. We provide activities that will enable your child to develop their fine motor skills through painting, cutting, sticking and construction activities.

EXTRA ACTIVITIES

Your child will also enjoy small world, role-play, sorting, puzzles, musical instruments as well as using various large pieces of equipment to help develop their gross motor skills in our inside and outdoor play areas.

Weekly Music and Movement sessions are part of our development programme ensuring your child will have the right support to develop their balance and co-ordination. Children particularly enjoy these sessions not only do they learn how to move and groove but they also enjoy having a good old singsong with childhood classics and learning new exciting songs!

All of these Early Years’ activities help your child to experience a positive and confident start. When the time arrives for your child to make the next transition to new horizons, they are ready to enjoy a school environment and are outgoing, confident learners.
